trench warfare

This educational website is designed for English/History programs for students from Grade 7 to Grade 12. This War and Peace unit is based on an interview with a World War 1 veteran, George Langford. This interview was originally recorded on a tape cassette in October of 1989 and is now presented in the form of a Flashpoint slide show. The testimony is the basis of this unit of study complete with lesson plans, handouts, activities, videos and music. This unit of study may be used for a Remembrance Day service, a week of study or a complete 6-8 week English/History unit. You are strongly encouraged to take the time to listen to the testimony. Mr. Langford’s words are powerful, inspirational, and spiritual.

This teaching unit is based on quotes from Mr. Langford’s testimony and is divided into three central themes: Conflict Resolution, Decision Making and the Home Front. Each theme includes a number of activities or videos that can be taught as lessons. As well as the testimony, you are encouraged to view the video The Hangman. It is a very powerful poem/video that relates to bullying and the bystander. Have fun teaching this unit!
